Thermal Aging

Elastomeric material tend to age in time in nuclear power plants as they are exposed to high temperatures, even at normal ambient temperatures. Rubber for instance, after a few years loses its characteristics. This is called thermal aging.

It is not practical to wait 20 years to determine the aged characteristics of a material. Thermal aging can be performed to simulate long periods of time within a short period accelerated test.
Thermodyne Engineering Ltd. has the capability to perform such tests and simulate many years of thermal aging in a few hours.

Thermally aged material may be susceptible to fire much easier than new material. It can also malfunction after a few years. Therefore, knowing or predicting its characteristics ahead of time is critical to understanding future maintenance requirements.

All tests are conducted strictly with ISO 9001-2015 Certified Quality Management System.
