Control of Nuclear Power Plants relay heavily on the characteristics of Control Valves. Dynamic Performance test of such valves determines such characteristics for the fluctuation of their input signals.
If a control valve is subject to a sine wave signal, then its response normally falls behind in phase from its signal, in addition, the magnitude of the response of the valve is reduced at high frequencies.
Control valves are prone to hunting, this is a phenomena that if a control valve is subjected to a sine wave signal and if the dynamic natural response of the valve is in phase with the frequency of the sine wave, then the control valve does not become stable, and its signal is magnified many times.
