Salt spray test determines how effective is the equipment for prolonged exposure to a salty atmosphere or to salt spray.

Salt Spray may cause:

  • Corrosion of metals.
  • Clogging or binding of moving parts due to corroded material or salt deposits.
  • Electrical shortages or spikes.
  • Changes in electrical or mechanical Insulation
  • Damages to electrical contacts.

RTCA/DO-160 is an acceptable standard for testing and application for Type Certificate or Supplement Type Certificate by the U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration.

The intent of this test is to verify if the equipment can withstand the effects of variations in Power Input conditions.
